This one-hour course will review current epidemiological trends related to alcohol consumption and alcohol use disorder among gender and sexuality diverse people.

The series, Addressing SUD in Gender and Sexuality Diverse (GSD) Patients, aims to provide addiction treatment providers with evidence-based information about the best practices related to engaging, assessing, and devising treatment plans for patients who identify as gender or sexuality diverse. The 4-part series will explore topics of particular concern to the GSD community including alcohol use, tobacco use, club drug use, and culturally responsive care for gender expansive patients. Didactic learning will be supplemented with a question and answer period for participants to ask experts in the field about particular challenges or considerations in caring for the GSD population.
This one-hour course will review current epidemiological trends related to alcohol consumption and alcohol use disorder among gender and sexuality diverse people. Contributing factors to higher rates of alcohol use disorder (AUD) among GSD populations will be reviewed through a minority stress framework for participants. The course will also review strategies for improving cultural responsiveness in traditional alcohol treatment programs for GSD populations. Following a 45-minute didactic there will be a 15-minute Q+A period to address current issues and concerns related to implementation of evidence-based practice strategies for improving care and treatment of GSD populations with AUD.
Medical providers, nurses, social workers, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors (LADC), Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselors (CADC), Community Health Workers (CHW), recovery coaches, counselors, Licensed Mental health Counselors (LMHC), and members of the community.
Following this training, participants will have the knowledge necessary to:
