Commonly used stimulant medications for treating ADD/ADHD will be covered, including their importance, potential side effects, and treatment considerations. Topic: ECHO
As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Vusudev Mandyam, MD, will differentiate acute, chronic, and complex pain presentations and their implications for management in primary care settings, and review evidence-based multimodal strategies for pain management that prioritize safety and functional improvement, including for patients with substance use disorders. The didactic will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant and recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.

Topic: Kratom
This training aims to increase learners’ understanding of kratom prevalence, misuse patterns, and clinical management. The activity provides evidence-based content that enables healthcare providers to accurately characterize kratom use, recognize signs and symptoms of kratom intoxication and withdrawal, and understand associated health risks. Improved knowledge is expected to reduce under-recognition of kratom-related concerns and promote more informed, consistent, and patient-centered care across interprofessional practice settings.

The session also focuses on delivering effective health education and harm reduction strategies to support individuals who use nicotine.

As part of the twice-monthly SUD Care Continuum ECHO® series, Caroline Dorsen, PhD, FNP-BC, FAAN, will review the current evidence base, proposed mechanisms, and safety considerations for psychedelic substances in the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders and discuss a harm-reduction–informed framework to counsel patients about psychedelic use, including screening for risk, discussing potential benefits and harms, and addressing legal and ethical considerations in clinical practice. The didactic will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant and recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.

Topic: Alcohol
Many individuals experiencing mild alcohol withdrawal syndrome can be safely and successfully managed in the outpatient setting, allowing less interruption to one’s professional, family, and social obligations. This training will provide an overview of alcohol withdrawal assessment and management in an outpatient setting. Participants will be able to identify the signs and symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and appropriate candidates for outpatient withdrawal management. Validated tools to assess alcohol withdrawal will be reviewed and evidence-based medication management for outpatient alcohol withdrawal will be discussed.
