This training is designed to provide an introductory overview of alcohol use disorders. We will explore the latest epidemiological data, with a focus on the prevalence and trends of alcohol use and alcohol use disorders in the United States. Diagnostic criteria and screening tools to assess for alcohol use disorders will be discussed. Additionally, we will examine evidence-based interventions to treat alcohol use disorders and support individuals in their recovery.

This training provides participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills to recognize, prevent, and respond to opioid overdoses using a compassionate, person-centered approach. Participants will explore the biological, social, and environmental factors that contribute to overdose risk, learn to identify the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, and review evidence-based response strategies. The training will also introduce emerging and innovative overdose prevention approaches that can be incorporated into clinical and community settings to reduce overdose-related harm and improve engagement in care.

Topic: Buprenorphine
This training is designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills in initiating buprenorphine treatment for opioid use disorder in the outpatient setting in the context of the widespread presence of illicitly manufactured fentanyl. We explore how the potency and prevalence of fentanyl complicates the initiation phase of buprenorphine treatment, leading to potential clinical challenges such as precipitated withdrawal. We suggest participating in the next training in the series, Buprenorphine 201, upon completing Buprenorphine 101.
