Pooja Lagisetty, MD, MSc (she/her)Dr. Pooja Lagisetty is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan Medical School and a research scientist at the Ann Arbor VA. She is the CoDirector of Research and Data Innovation in the University of Michigan Opioid Research Institute and Advance Fellowship in Addiction Research at the Ann Arbor VA. She is clinically boarded in both Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine and cares for veterans within the Ann Arbor VA. Her research has been influential in understanding stigma and disparities for individuals with pain and addiction, comparing the effectiveness of treatments for opioid use disorder, and evaluating effects of opioid related policy.
Objectives
At the end of this training, participants will have the knowledge necessary to:
- Identify the impact of hyperalgesia and cross-tolerance on the chronic pain experience with patients on medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) or with opioid dependence.
- Name at least two non-pharmacological and two adjunctive pharmacological treatments for chronic pain management.
- Implement the PEG scale to identify the severity of chronic pain appropriately.
- Evaluate symptoms of opioid use disorder (OUD) in patients on chronic opioid therapy.

Donovan Maust, MD, MSDr. Donovan Maust is the Blackney Research Professor of Geriatric Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School and a Research Scientist with the VA Ann Arbor Center for Clinical Management Research. A primary focus of his research is psychotropic prescribing to older adults in community and residential settings. He earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and completed residency and fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania.
Objectives
At the end of this training, participants will have the knowledge necessary to:
- Identify two clinical indications for benzodiazepine use.
- List three signs or symptoms of benzodiazepine withdrawal.
- Name three diagnostic criteria for benzodiazepine use disorder.

Julie Celentano, Lic.Ac, M.Ac,MPHJulie practices as a clinical staff acupuncturist in family medicine and the employee wellness clinics at Boston Medical Center. Previously, she worked as an acupuncturist in the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program at Fenway Health. Julie is passionate about integrating acupuncture into substanceuse disorder treatment plans to help reduce anxiety, depression and cravings while improving sleep, program adherence and retention.
Nicole Lincoln, MSN, RN, FNP-BC, CCNSNicole Lincoln, an APRN with a nursing career that spans decades, is a founding member and Executive Sponsor of the Integrative Nursing Council and Fellowship at Boston Medical Center. The Fellows and Council Members are passionate about integrating Holistic Nursing modalities into the standard of care, promoting self-care and resiliency for staff, and on providing therapies like reiki, mindfulness, music, art, and aromatherapy to patients.
Tim Murphy, BSN, RNTimothy is an ICU nurse at Boston Medical Center. Over the years, he has gain competence in and has incorporate integrative medicine in his nursing practice. In addition to his role as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, he co-leads the Integrative Nursing Council, which has brought innovative, evidence-based, holistic nursing practices and integrative medicine into not only patient care but also care for his fellow nurses. Murphy’s practice combines conventional medical treatments with complementary, non-pharmacological therapies, including mind-body interventions and stress management methods, such as mindfulness, meditation, and Reiki.
Objectives
At the end of this training, participants will have the knowledge necessary to:
- Identify at least two evidence-based integrative therapies used in the management of pain.
- Describe ways to utilize integrative therapies as part of a multimodal treatment plan for pain management.

Heidi Ginter, MD, FASAMDr. Heidi Ginter is a board-certified Family Medicine physician, Addiction Medicine specialist, and passionate advocate for methadone and other evidence-based medications for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Her commitment to treating substance use disorders began nearly two decades ago while providing prenatal care to incarcerated pregnant patients. Today, she is honored to support people in reaching their recovery goals at every stage of life and level of care. As a physician leader, Dr. Ginter leverages her position to help shape policies and treatment guidelines that emphasize evidence, patient-centered care, and individualized experiences. Beyond her professional work, she is a proud mother—her middle daughter is starting college this fall. Dr. Ginter earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University and her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine residency at the Hahnemann Family Health Center at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine, where she now serves as an Assistant Professor.

Heidi Ginter, MD, FASAMDr. Heidi Ginter is a board-certified Family Medicine physician, Addiction Medicine specialist, and passionate advocate for methadone and other evidence-based medications for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Her commitment to treating substance use disorders began nearly two decades ago while providing prenatal care to incarcerated pregnant patients. Today, she is honored to support people in reaching their recovery goals at every stage of life and level of care. As a physician leader, Dr. Ginter leverages her position to help shape policies and treatment guidelines that emphasize evidence, patient-centered care, and individualized experiences. Beyond her professional work, she is a proud mother—her middle daughter is starting college this fall. Dr. Ginter earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University and her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine residency at the Hahnemann Family Health Center at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine, where she now serves as an Assistant Professor.
Objectives
At the end of this training, participants will have the knowledge necessary to:
- Identify the impact of hyperalgesia and cross-tolerance on the acute pain experience with patients on medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) or with opioid dependence.
- Name at least two non-pharmacological and two adjunctive pharmacological treatments for acute pain management.
- Create pain-management care plans for planned acute pain experiences for patients on MOUD.
- Create pain-management care plans for unanticipated acute pain experiences for patients on MOUD.

Megan (Meg) Hudson, MSN, PMHNP-BC (she/her)Meg is a clinical nurse educator with Boston Medical Center's (BMC) Grayken Center for Addiction Training and Technical Assistance and a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Boston Medical Center. Prior to obtaining her MSN, she worked as a nurse care manager in the Stimulant Treatment and Recovery Clinic (START) clinic, integrating harm reduction, infectious disease treatment, medical addiction groups, and co-management of stimulant use disorders and mental health conditions. Her clinical expertise includes harm reduction, low barrier treatment, complex care management, early identification and management of acute and persistent stimulant-induced psychosis. She earned both her BSN and MSN from Regis College.
