As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Andrea Jodat, DNP, FNP-BC, CARN-AP, will discuss how to determine which patients may be appropriate candidates for treatment with long-acting injectable buprenorphine (LAIB), review the two FDA-approved formulations, and provide a foundational overview of dosing, initiation, and maintenance strategies for their use. Boston Medical Center's (BMC) 12-part Massachusetts Office Based Addiction Treatment ECHO® (MA OBAT ECHO®) offers training and support in addiction treatment, with a focus on comprehensive care for patients with substance use disorders (SUDs). The free, case-based tele-mentoring program is designed to increase the capacity of primary care teams to integrate addiction treatment using a multidisciplinary care model.

Providers, nurses, social workers, psychologists, peer supports, other clinical staff, and non-clinicians.

Andrea Jodat, DNP, FNP-BC, CARN-AP (she/her)Andrea is a clinical nurse educator for Boston Medical Center's (BMC) Grayken Center for Addiction Training and Technical Assistance program, a Family Nurse Practitioner in General Internal Medicine at BMC, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Andrea earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions and is certified as a Certified Addiction Registered Nurse - Advanced Practice (CARN-AP) through the Addictions Nursing Certification Board.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will have the knowledge to:
- Determine which patients may be appropriate candidates for treatment with long-acting injectable buprenorphine (LAIB).
- Identify the two FDA-approved formulations of long-acting injectable buprenorphine.
- Develop a basic understanding of the dosing, initiation, and maintenance when using long-acting injectable buprenorphine.

Prior to obtaining her MSN, she worked as a nurse care manager in the Stimulant Treatment and Recovery Clinic (START) clinic, integrating harm reduction, infectious disease treatment, medical addiction groups, and co-management of stimulant use disorders and mental health conditions. Her clinical expertise includes harm reduction, low barrier treatment, complex care management, early identification and management of acute and persistent stimulant-induced psychosis. She earned both her BSN and MSN from Regis College.

MA OBAT ECHO®: Outpatient Management of Alcohol Withdrawal

As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Stephen Holt, MD, MS, FACP, FASAM, will review medications for outpatient management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome, the signs and symptoms of alcohol withdrawal syndrome, and how to identify appropriate candidates for outpatient management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome. The didactic will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant and recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.

Description
Boston Medical Center's (BMC) 12-part Massachusetts Office Based Addiction Treatment ECHO® (MA OBAT ECHO®) offers training and support in addiction treatment, with a focus on comprehensive care for patients with substance use disorders (SUDs). The free, case-based tele-mentoring program is designed to increase the capacity of primary care teams to integrate addiction treatment using a multidisciplinary care model.

Providers, nurses, social workers, psychologists, peer supports, other clinical staff, and non-clinicians.
Speakers
Stephen Holt, MD, MS, FACP, FASAMDr. Holt is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, where he also serves as the Associate Program Director for the Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program. As an Addiction Medicine specialist, he directs the Addiction Recovery Clinic at Yale and has spoken at numerous regional, national, and international venues on a a variety of Addiction Medicine topics. Dr. Holt has won local and national awards for his clinical teaching, including the New Investigator/Educator Award from the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA), the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Yale School of Medicine, and the Early Career Physician Teaching Award from the American College of Physicians (ACP).
Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will have the knowledge to:
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of alcohol withdrawal syndrome.
- Identify appropriate candidates for outpatient management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome.
- List at least two medications utilized in outpatient management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

REQUIREMENTS for credit

For this program, 1.50 contact hours will be offered to participants who attend the training and complete the evaluation.
LADC/CADC & Recovery Coach
Boston Medical Center Grayken Center for Addiction Training and Technical Assistance is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (DPH/BSAS) to award LADC/CADC and Recovery Coaches who complete this training 1.50 continuing education credits.
