This training will prepare nurses in the Emergency Department to work with patients presenting with an opioid use disorder event. The goal of the training is to provide nurses with tools to screen, assess, and initiate treatment with approved agonist medications under the direction of a waivered provider.

This training will cover the basics of addiction medicine including the disease model of substance use disorders, medications for treatment of opioid use disorder, and the initial assessment and screening of patients and initiation of treatment. It will also address concerns for special populations and the treatment of addiction in specialized urgent care and emergency room settings.
This training will be held via Zoom. The Zoom log-in information will be emailed prior to the training.
Continuing education credits will be provided for nurses. Please note that webcam use is required in order to be eligible for CEUs.

Boston Medical Center Grayken Center for Addiction. This event is funded by grants from the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Addiction Services.
Boston Medical Center grants 1.50 hours to all RNs who attend and complete the evaluation. Boston Medical Center is approved as a provider of continuing professional development by the American Nurses Association, Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
