This event is a one woman play written and performed by a psychiatric nurse practitioner who specializes in addiction. The play explores the lives of five people impacted by substance use disorder and their experiences in treatment, in the community, and the healthcare setting.

Description

BMC TTA will be streaming "Spiro Spero" from March 2nd - March 14th. Participants will watch the streamed play on youtube and then attend the talk-back from 11am - 12pm ET on March 14th. This event is a one woman play written and performed by a pyschiatric nurse practitioner who specializes in addiction. The play explores the lives of five people impacted by substance use disorder and their experiences in treatment, in the community, and in the healthcare setting. A talk back will occur immediately following the stream with the writer/performer, Judith Austin, and members of the addiction community.

The run-time of the play is approximately 1-hour and the talk back session will be 1-hour. Registering for the event and attending the entire showing of the play/talk back session of the training will be required in order to receive continuing education credits.

A link to the play will be emailed to participants following registration. The zoom link to the talk-back will be sent a few days prior to March 14th.

The talk-back/discussion period will occur on March 14 at 11am ET and will last approximately 60 minutes.. Attending the talk-back is required in order to receive continuing education credits.

Objectives

1. Participants will be able to examine the role of stigma in the treatment of people with substance use disorders. 

2. Participants will be able to deconstruct societal factors affecting the development and treatment of substance use disorders. 

3. Participants will be able to reflect on healthcare systems and their impact on people with substance use disorders.

Accreditation information

Boston Medical Center grants 1.50 hours to all RNs who attend and complete the evaluation. Boston Medical Center is approved as a provider of continuing professional development by the American Nurses Association, Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

BMC Office Based Addiction Treatment Training and Technical Assistance has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7188. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. BMC Office Based Addiction Treatment Training and Technical Assistance is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. For this program, 1.50 contact hours will be offered to participants who attend the training and complete the evaluation.
