Description

Many people seeking treatment for alcohol use may not have a goal of complete abstinence but are motivated to cut back on their consumption or engage in safer drinking practices. This training will review the burden of disease and impact of alcohol use in the United States. It will discuss clinical approaches to reducing alcohol consumption and utilizing safer drinking strategies to reduce alcohol-associated harms.

This session will equip team members across settings to better understand the principles of harm reduction for alcohol use. This is an opportunity to explore the importance of identifying risky drinking and implementing harm-reduction strategies to help decrease risk. Although there will be some review of medications for alcohol use disorder, this session will emphasize the role that many team members hold in regard to utilizing harm reduction principles for those who drink.

Prescribers, nurses, social workers, and other clinical and non-clinical staff.

Objectives

Following this training, participants will have the knowledge to:

• Identify at least 3 medical interventions to reduce the harm of daily alcohol consumption. 
• Identify 3 evidence-based medications for the treatment of alcohol use disorder. 
• Devise treatment plans that consider strategies to reduce alcohol consumption.

REQUIREMENTS for credit

1. Register for training
2. Arrive/log into the training no more than 10 minutes after designated start time for program.
3. Identify yourself by typing your full name into the chat and ensuring your zoom name matches that used to register for training (or you cannot be marked on attendance).
4. Be present through the end of the activity (i.e. until the designated end time of training).
5. Complete evaluation within 2 weeks of program completion.

Please note this policy is strictly enforced for accreditation purposes. Participants will forfeit collection of credit and certificates of completion if more than 10 minutes of the training is missed.

Participants who complete and return the evaluation and stay for the entire session will be awarded 0.50 contact hours.

LMHC

BMC Grayken Center of Addiction TTA has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7188. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. BMC Grayken Center of Addiction TTA is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. For this program, 0.50 contact hours will be offered to participants who attend the training and complete the evaluation.

LADC/CADC & Recovery Coach

Grayken Center for Addiction TTA is approved to offer LADC/CADCs and recovery coaches who complete this course 0.50 general continuing education credits.
