This training is designed to provide an introductory overview of alcohol use disorders. We will explore the latest epidemiological data, with a focus on the prevalence and trends of alcohol use and alcohol use disorders in the United States. Diagnostic criteria and screening tools to assess for alcohol use disorders will be discussed. Additionally, we will examine evidence-based interventions to treat alcohol use disorders and support individuals in their recovery.

This training will review strategies for evaluating available evidence for using medications in the treatment of methamphetamine use disorder. The session will also describe two prescribing strategies for patients with a methamphetamine use disorder and for which patient profiles they may be the most effective.

As part of the twice-monthly SUD Care Continuum ECHO® series, Judith Austin, MSN, PMHNP-BC, CARN-AP, will identify common psychiatric disorders that may be present in persons with substance use disorder and discuss how to initiate and provide patient information on commonly prescribed psychiatric medications. The didactic will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant and recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.
