Topic: Special Populations
This training supports youth-facing providers and care teams. Utilizing didactic discussion, we will describe the prevalence of youth substance use (SU) and emerging trends, paying specific attention to common substances, such as nicotine, cannabis and alcohol. We will review youth-specific risks of SU, including acute and chronic harms; discuss overdose education and naloxone; and highlight communication tools that support working with youth who use substances.

Topic: ECHO
As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Judith Austin, MSN, PMHNP-BC, CARN-AP, will identify common psychiatric disorders that may be present in persons with substance use disorder and discuss how to initiate and provide patient information on commonly prescribed psychiatric medications. The didactic will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant and recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.

This training will cover the impact of hyperalgesia and cross tolerance on acute pain among patients with opioid dependence and/or who are on medications for opioid use disorder. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for acute pain management will be discussed. Participants will acquire tools for devising pain-management plans for planned and unanticipated acute pain experiences for patients on medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD).

Through a moderated panel discussion, this training will explore the perspectives of parenting persons in recovery who are parenting/caregiving. We will identify barriers and stigma encountered by parenting persons in recovery and how to mitigate these challenges to better support this population and their loved ones. Unique attention will be paid to identifying resources available to children.
