Topic: Cannabis & Nicotine
This training is designed to increase awareness and knowledge around nicotine and tobacco use among youth in the United States. Participants will explore current data on youth prevalence, identify key risk and protective factors influencing youth substance use, and examine policies that affect access to nicotine products. The session also highlights the short- and long-term effects of nicotine use in adolescents and introduces two evidence-based interventions for treating nicotine and tobacco use disorders in youth.

This training is meant for Registered Nurses (RNs) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) working in the addiction field who are interested in becoming Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) or a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse - Advanced Practice (CARN-AP). As part of the twice-monthly SUD Care Continuum ECHO® series, Kristina Fenn Silver, MA, will review the epidemiology of nicotine use in the United States, describe the impact of social determinants of health on tobacco/nicotine use, and discuss practical strategies for assisting patients in health promotion around tobacco/nicotine use.
