As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Beth Cohen, MD, will discuss the prevalence of anabolic and androgenic steroid use among both patients with substance use disorders and the general population. She will also review the health risks associated with these performance- and appearance-enhancing drugs and explore approaches to supporting patients in discontinuing their use. The didactic session will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant, along with recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.

This training is designed to provide an introductory overview of alcohol use disorders. We will explore the latest epidemiological data, with a focus on the prevalence and trends of alcohol use and alcohol use disorders in the United States. Diagnostic criteria and screening tools to assess for alcohol use disorders will be discussed. Additionally, we will examine evidence-based interventions to treat alcohol use disorders and support individuals in their recovery.

This training aims to increase learners’ understanding of kratom prevalence, misuse patterns, and clinical management. The activity provides evidence-based content that enables healthcare providers to accurately characterize kratom use, recognize signs and symptoms of kratom intoxication and withdrawal, and understand associated health risks. Improved knowledge is expected to reduce under-recognition of kratom-related concerns and promote more informed, consistent, and patient-centered care across interprofessional practice settings.

This training is designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the various formulations of cannabis and their associated health impacts. Attendees will learn to identify at least three common cannabis product types, evaluate product labels including THC:CBD ratios, and understand how different formulations influence user experience and health outcomes. The session also covers how to provide effective health education and harm reduction strategies to address problematic cannabis use.

This training focuses on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively recognize, prevent, and respond to alcohol poisoning situations. The primary objective is to educate attendees on the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning, enabling them to identify when an individual requires immediate assistance. The session will explore effective strategies aimed at mitigating the risk of alcohol poisoning, as well as interventions for responding to individuals potentially experiencing alcohol poisoning.
