This training is meant for Registered Nurses (RNs) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) working in the addiction field who are interested in becoming Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) or a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse - Advanced Practice (CARN-AP). The course is intended to support nurses studying for the certification exam by reviewing content covered in the exam and providing additional educational resources relevant to the exam.

Topic: ECHO
As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Hallie Rozansky, MD, will describe the clinical rationale and key guidelines for co-prescribing PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV) and medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD). She will also demonstrate basic skills for integrating PrEP assessment and prescribing into MOUD visits to improve comprehensive care for patients at risk of HIV. The didactic session will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant, along with recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.

Topic: ECHO
As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Joji Suzuki, MD, will describe the current evidence base, proposed mechanisms, and safety considerations for psychedelic substances in the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders.. He will also apply a health-promotion framework to counsel patients about psychedelic use, including screening for risk, discussing potential benefits and harms, and addressing legal and ethical considerations in clinical practice. The didactic session will be followed by an extended discussion and question and answer period. The didactic session will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant, along with recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.

Topic: Stimulants
This training provides a foundational overview of contingency management (CM) as an evidence-based intervention for substance use disorders. Participants will learn to recognize the seven core principles of CM, identify at least two effective implementation strategies, and understand the critical role of monitoring and auditing to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse. The session will also highlight at least three substance use disorders for which CM is a proven treatment approach. Designed for clinicians, program managers, and support staff, this training equips participants with practical tools to apply CM with fidelity and accountability in diverse treatment settings.
